How does the FitBark GPS locate my pet?

Your dog’s FitBark GPS has three typical modes of functioning throughout the day.

Within a Wi-Fi Safe Place

When a FitBark GPS is within a Wi-Fi Safe Place, your pup’s location is reported at the center of the Safe Place. In this mode, the “Track” button is not enabled (unless Track within Safe Places is enabled in your pet's GPS settings).

Bluetooth connected to an owner

When the FitBark GPS is Bluetooth connected to an owner’s smartphone and outside of a Wi-Fi Safe Place, your dog’s location will be reported every minute only when the smartphone is able to get an accurate location. For best results, please leave your phone’s Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on at all times, and make sure you have an active internet connection. In this mode, the “Track” button is not enabled.

Tip: Tap on the paws to learn at what time your pup was at a certain location in the past 24 hours.

No Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connectivity (“Solo” mode)

When the FitBark GPS is not within a Wi-Fi Safe Place and not Bluetooth connected to an owner’s smartphone, we will periodically attempt to provide an approximate (best estimate) location of your pup. The FitBark GPS optimizes battery life by leveraging GPS location, local Wi-Fi networks and cell tower data when Live Tracking mode is not enabled. If “Live Tracking” mode is enabled, the FitBark GPS will send the best possible location (highest quality) available every minute.

Tip: Tap on the paws to learn at what time your pup was at a certain location in the past 24 hours.
