Is GPS used to estimate distance?

It actually does not! To guarantee exceptional battery life and to increase the likelihood of finding your pup in case of emergency, the primary purpose of our GPS is to find your dog in case of emergency. In other words, we do not focus on building second-by-second pathways and calculating the most precise distance traveled throughout the day. If that’s what you are looking for, please consider other products.

While mileage is a useful metric, please bear in mind that accelerometer activity counts (or BarkPoints) is the primary scientific metric to evaluate dog physical activity. Over 100 research institutions have run clinical studies on the FitBark’s platform, and based their research on dog activity / mobility on FitBark’s BarkPoints metric (as opposed to miles).
